Jeanne O’Connor was first introduced to barbershop harmony and the Village Vocal Chords on April 11, 1961, at the chorus musical celebration of its affiliation with the international organization Harmony, Incorporated. This shy teenager was immediately hooked on Harmony and soon thereafter took her place in the VVC lead section. The next 55 years of Jeanne’s barbershop background contain a wealth of experience and accomplishments in many facets of this unique musical art form, including singing, directing, coaching, instructing, judging and administration. Jeanne has been a member of several Harmony, Inc. Championship quartets ~ baritone of the SCALE BLAZERS (1964), bass of ESPRIT DE CORPS (1974), replacement baritone of KALEIDOSCOPE (1987), replacement bass of VOICES (2002), and bass in U4X (2008).
In 1976, Jeanne became the musical director of the Village Vocal Chords and has since led the chorus to 18 of its 20 international chorus championships. Throughout Harmony and abroad Jeanne has instructed at educational seminars, served on judging panels as a certified Presentation category Judge, and coached innumerable choruses and quartets. Her administration contributions are many and varied, including periods of service on the International Board of Directors of Harmony, Inc. where she has served the organization as International President an unprecedented three times (1986-88, 2000-2002 and 2012-2014).
